Kent Sun serves as Chief Development Officer, Greater China at IHG Hotels & Resorts, where he leads the company’s development strategy and business expansion across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
Kent joined IHG Greater China in 2004 and has led the development function since 2009. Under his leadership, Greater China has become one of IHG’s most important growth engines globally, with the regional portfolio expanding from approximately 100 hotels to more than 900 properties. Through long-term strategic partnerships with leading hotel owners and investors, he has further strengthened IHG’s leadership position in China’s hospitality sector.
He has spearheaded IHG’s expansion beyond tier-one cities into high-growth emerging destinations across Greater China and pioneered the localization of IHG’s franchise-plus model, creating a flexible development framework tailored to evolving market needs.
Kent has also played a pivotal role in building IHG’s diversified brand portfolio in the region, addressing a wide spectrum of investment needs across markets and project types. He has led the regional introduction of multiple new brands, including the recently launched Garner and Atwell. In addition, he was a key contributor to the creation and rollout of HUALUXE Hotels & Resorts, IHG’s first upscale brand designed specifically for Chinese guests.
With deep expertise in hospitality development, owner relations, and strategic partnerships, Kent continues to drive IHG’s growth across Greater China. He remains committed to creating sustainable long-term value for hotel owners while further strengthening IHG’s presence in one of the world’s most dynamic hospitality markets.
